Are you one of the following?
A working professional preparing for an audition?
A university student looking for additional guidance?
A high school student getting ready for college auditions?
A young beginning clarinetist (or the parent of one) looking for help starting out?
An adult simply looking to get better at the clarinet?
If you said “yes” to any of those, then you’ve come to the right place!
I have been teaching private clarinet lessons for 20 years, working with a wide range of ages and ability levels including students in middle school, high school, undergraduate and graduate school, as well as early-career professional musicians. By popular demand, I am now offering online clarinet lessons to students from the United States and around the world. I am available for regular weekly lessons (30 minutes or 60 minutes) as well as single lessons for situations like audition preparation, college auditions, etc.
While there are several online clarinet teachers available, I believe I am the only one who:
is a tenured university professor,
holds a certificate in Online Teaching and Learning, and
teaches without an intermediary third-party company that drives up the costs of lessons
Teaching philosophy
As a teacher and musician, I believe that “we get better by doing.” One of my biggest motivations for teaching is the idea that this improvement manifests not only in students’ abilities, but also in their contributions to society and sense of purpose. It is not teaching music that is important, it is teaching people through the study of music, helping them become the best possible versions of themselves as clarinetists, musicians and people.
Since each student is unique, I provide all of my students with a bespoke plan to reach their short- and long-term musical goals. On the clarinet, my goal is to help each student develop their fundamental clarinet and musicianship skills so they can make music in any setting without the instrument as a perceived barrier to their artistry.
